3D printer reviewReview Velleman Vertex K8400; printer for the pur sang hobbyist
By Site editors - - Price update: 2023 December 10 -
The newest generation 3D printer of Velleman is the Vertex K8400. The Vertex is a DIY 3D printer with a very competitive price and many options for hobbyists. The Vertex K8400 3D printer is completely open source, so that you can decide yourself what software you want to use for printing.
The K8400 can be upgraded with a second printhead (dual extruder) that makes printing with different materials or colors possible. Velleman does not restrict you to use their own filaments, as the printer can handle almost all sorts of filaments on the market. The printer unfortunately does not have a heatable printbed, thus, materials like ABS can not be used.

Review
You have to build the Vertex K8400 yourself, that will be the biggest downside for most people. Once build, it is a quality machine that is easy to handle and use. Only use with PLA due to lack of heated platform. For the Price its an awesome package, with just a little bit of electronics skill its easy to assemble and easy to run/maintain.
Review
With more than 40 years in the business, Velleman is a well-known electronics kit company. In 2013, Velleman entered the world of 3D printing with the K8200, an open source 3D printer kit. Now the team has followed that with the release of the K8400 Vertex, a significant advancement from the K8200. The Vertex is a great option for anyone who still wants the experience of building a kit machine.
Conclusion
The Velleman Vertex K8400 is a beautiful printer for the purist hobbyist. You have to first assemble the printer yourself and that is for many people perhaps one of the two largest disadvantages. The other is the lack of a heatable printbed which makes printing with some materials, like ABS, sadly not possible. However, large advantages of this printer are the possibility to install a second printhead.
The printer is extremely affordably piced and the print quality is very good. In short: an excellent beginner printer for handy people among us.
